I had some success trying to make an eye splice this evening. Earlier in the day I picked up some rope and cheap plastic fids at the hardware store to play around with. Tonight I sat down with my copy of Chapman from the library and tried my hand at the eye splice. Getting it started was a bit tricky, but after that it seemed pretty straightforward.
