We started our family summer vacation yesterday, which was mostly spent organizing ourselves for the week and wrapping up some house projects.
Today we decided to switch into full vacation mode and opted for a hike to Barclay lake, which is close to Steven’s Pass. The forecast said some showers followed by clearing, so we decided to take a chance. Needless to say, it rained pretty much the whole time.
Elise and Lauren try to stay dry under the trees. This was a return trip for Lauren and Elise, although Lauren was five weeks old the last time around.
Taking our family of 7 on a hike required some logistical contortions. I carried Charlotte on my front and a pack on my back, while Kim had Lucy in the child carrier, and the other kids all carried their own packs.
Liam was sure he could also touch both trees at once if he just stretched enough.
It’s been a long time since Kim and I have been out on a hike in the cleansing Washington rain. It felt great to get back outdoors together.
Burk and Sharon were brave enough to join us for Liam, Charlotte, and Lucy’s inaugural foray into the wilderness.
You can’t really fault Lucy for her sense of outrage as Charlotte tries to snatch her bread away.
